Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need information about your publisher or printer?

Every printer or publishing has their own specific requirements and specifications. Some may require margins, color or ink limit, bleeding size, gutter margins, etc. So for us to meet their requirements, we need some information about them.

What are the standard sizes for a children’s book?

Children’s books are not a one-size-fits-all thing. There is a recommended size for each type. Kindly check the sizes below:

  • 8.5” x 8.5” & 8” x 10” (usually for Print on Demand)

  • 10” x 10” or 9” x 9” (Offset)

  • 8.5” x 11”

  • 6” x 9” or 5.5” x 8.5” (Chapter Books)

This is my first time in self-publishing, do you have any tips?

If it is your first time to self-publish a book, we advise that you get a coach. You can check out “Self-Publishing Made Simple with April Cox” (CLICK HERE). This may help you in your self-publishing journey as it has helped many others.

Can you edit or illustrate?

Doing illustrations is not part of the services we cater. We focus more on graphic designs and formatting. However, we can do some minor tweaks on your illustrations if needed. But if tweaks on illustrations have exceeded three (3) or more pages, we will require an additional fee.

Can you edit a manuscript?

No. You can find a professional editor for your book. We only copy your manuscript as is from the word document to the Design Application we are using which is InDesign. We make sure to use the best font size, leading, justification, indentions, hyphenation, tracking, and kerning to ensure texts are perfectly placed and enjoyable to read.

However, we can recommend some editors if you need one.

How long does it take to finish formatting a book?

It often depends on the project information and files you will give us. However, the initial minimum time we can give is two(2) weeks, and the maximum is one (1) month. If you want to speed up turnaround time, an additional 50% from the original quote will be added.

Can we meet via Zoom or Google Meet?

Yes, we can meet on either medium. We encourage direct communication with the author and designer so we can make sure there is no misunderstanding on the things needed.

How do I send the files?

For easier file transfer, we encourage authors to use any of these applications to send their files:

  • Dropbox

  • OneDrive

  • WeTransfer

  • Google Drive

What are the file requirements for the illustrations?

  • The resolution must be at least 300ppi.

  • Illustration size should be equal or bigger than the trim size or book size you choose. This is to make sure that the quality of the illustrations is not compromised.

  • The color profile MUST be in CMYK not RGB. The RGB is only best used in ebooks.

Can you help us generate barcode?

Yes, we can generate barcode on our end. Just let us know ahead of time if you need us to do it for you.
